The Grizzlies TEAM Mentor Program is a school-based mentoring program for 7th and 8th graders that pairs three volunteer mentors with nine students to form one TEAM.
Each mentoring session allows mentors and students to develop meaningful relationships. Students and mentors meet once a week for 90 minutes, allowing them to develop meaningful relationships.
The Salvation Army Angel Tree has mall shifts throughout December at Wolfchase Mall to assist individuals as they adopt angels off the Angel Tree. It is a rewarding and humbling to see the generosity of local Memphians.
Orion Starry Nights is a holiday tradition. More than 1.5 million lights illuminate the night sky in the largest drive-through holiday light show and festival in the Mid-South! But Starry Nights is more than a show–it’s an experience. Volunteers are needed to help make the forest an experience.
The First Congo Church Pantry is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2-2:30, and serves over 150 families each week. Volunteers arrive at 1:30 to set up, and we are done around 3 pm. Volunteers sort food, set up, and help visitors sign up, pick out produce, and shop the shelves.
Literacy Mid-South is seeking volunteers to staff gift wrapping stations at Barnes & Noble Wolfchase for the holiday season! Gifts purchased at the store will be wrapped in holiday cheer in exchange for a donation to Literacy Mid-South, and the bookstores will provide all the gift wrapping supplies.
HopeWorks is looking for volunteers to work at the front desk. Volunteers will greet visitors and answer the phone. Light clerical work may also be included.
AARP Foundation is launching the Fre$H Savings program at several Koger stores in the Memphis area. The Fre$h Savings program is a new SNAP incentive program that encourages SNAP recipients to purchase more fresh fruits and vegetables through a variety of incentives.
Volunteers are needed to answer questions and educate eligible shoppers.
Trained volunteers prepare tax returns for low and moderate income workers and ensure they are claiming one of the most powerful anti-poverty tools ever created, the Earned Income Tax Credit. Volunteers also promote savings and healthy financial practices through United Way of the Mid-South.
In addition to Tax Preparers, Greeters, Screeners, and Cash Coaches are needed. Free training and certification is required. No prior experience/expertise needed.
Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-South’s ReStore is a discounted home good store that is open to the general public for shopping. They sell new and gently used household items, including furniture, cabinets, doors, windows, lamps, light fixtures, appliances, tools and more. It is managed by a majority of volunteers as Santa’s elves restocking shelves, pricing items, and more.
Baptist Trinity Hospice needs sewing groups, church groups or even individual volunteers to make bibs, lap blankets or quilts for hospice patients. A pattern for the bibs will be provided.
The Memphis Public Library and Information Center needs volunteers to facilitate basic and intermediate level coding workshops to teen Library customers in Cloud901.
